Strides For The General is celebrating 10 years of making a vital difference. Strides For The General is an annual tradition for patients, families and supporters of Hamilton General Hospital, including the Regional Rehabilitation Centre.
This year Strides For The General is going virtual. From September 10 to 19 we invite our supporters to run or walk in their communities and fundraise for priority needs at Hamilton General Hospital, the Regional Rehabilitation Centre and St. Peter’s Hospital.
Where: Your community
When: 10 days to participate! Walk or run once, or multiple times from September 10 – 19.
What: Your choice to participate in a 5 KM Walk, 5 KM Run or 10 KM Run
What else: Scavenger hunt for walk participants, online race for runners and prizes for fundraisers
Special Recognition: Strides would like to recognize the incredible frontline workers (from any industry) that have made a difference in our communities over the past several months. Click here to nominate someone today.
You can register online as an individual or a group. When you register you create a personal fundraising page (your participant centre) where you can share why you are fundraising and direct supporters to donate to you (and your team).
The registration fee is $20. This includes your Race Kit, a value-filled package that includes runner’s socks and much more!
Race Kits will be available for pick-up in early September. Specific details coming soon.
Registered participants competing in the virtual 10 KM run or 5 KM run will be asked to submit their times online. We appreciate the honesty of all participants in this fun race! Participants are encouraged to share a photo of their time (capture by phone/fitness tracker/watch) on social media, including the Strides Facebook event page to showcase their support.
Participants taking part in the 5 KM Walk can opt to take part in a unique scavenger hunt. During your walk take photos of letters you see and create a collage to spell STRIDES. Participants are encouraged to share their collage on social media, including the Strides Facebook event page to showcase their support.
All participants are encouraged to fundraise and support patients in our region. When you register you’ll be able to select whether the funds you are raising are designated to Hamilton General Hospital, including the Regional Rehabilitation Centre or to St. Peter’s Hospital.
Once registered you’ll have access to a personalized participant centre where you can send emails to request support, view your progress and send thank you emails. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $10 or more.

Since 2011, Strides for the General has raised more than $1.2 million! Funds raised through Strides For The General enable the clinical teams at Hamilton General Hospital and the Regional Rehabilitation Centre to purchase critical equipment and patient amenities that will have a significant impact on the quality of care provided to patients.
