Welcome to Nancy McMillan's 60th Birthday Party!
On May 30th I celebrated my 60th birthday. I've never been much for milestone birthdays but this one was somehow different. I am not sure why but it seems as though my first 48 years came with a 12 year warranty! As most of you know, in October 2007 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Talk about a life changing experience. Up to that point I thought things had been going pretty well. I had the love of a great family, a 25+ year banking career, two university degrees and the best "real" friends anyone could imagine having. To think all this could only get better was ridiculous. But it did get much better...
Thanks to my breast cancer adventure I have learned many things and come to appreciate even more. I have learned:1) to pay attention to random thoughts, they are there for a reason, 2) don't put off doing anything until tomorrow, do it right now, 3) to over-use the words Thank You, it is the simplest prayer and means the world to the receiver and finally, 4) to do the very best I can, with the talents I possess, at the time I am needed.
Please help me celebrate my 60th birthday (and warranty renewal) by joining me in supporting breast cancer research being done at Juravinski, my cancer centre. Register online to join McMillan's Madcaps on Sat Sept 7 to walk or run or if you prefer, sponsor me and I will do the walking for you.
BRIGHT Run has become my passion and true focus over the last 12 years. I know we are making a difference in the breast cancer research world but also in the lives of patients, survivors, donors, families and volunteers, everyone who experiences the power of BRIGHT.
