Krystal's Burkitts Lymphoma Story
Why hello there! My name is Krystal Fortman, I am a 33 year old woman from Brantford Ontario currently in remission from a type of blood cancer called "Burkitt's Lymphoma". I am engaged to a wonderful man (Kam), have 2 rescue kitties, a 1 year old German Shepherd and a Gecko. I have a wonderful supportive family and some great friends.
ABOUT MY CANCER
In 2016 I discovered a small lump on my neck, that grew very quickly. Over time it was becoming difficult to breathe, swallow, talk or eat. I went to my doctors, specialists and hospitals to figure out what was wrong. It was at Juravinski where they discovered I had Burkitt's Lymphoma. My treatment started almost immediatly. I had aggresive Chemotherapy as an inpatient. I also received 16 spinal taps. I had 2 blood transfusions and 2 sets of platelets. My doctor (Dr.Kouroukis) was and still is so amazing, along with all of the amazing nurses and other doctors who helped me. I had some terrible side effects, I missed out on half of a year, I could not work, and I had days where I honestly had no idea if I had a future. However, everyday I saw my fiance and my family. I had many great friends visit me. I really could not of asked for anything better then that to push me to fight. I love them all so much. Just before Christmas of 2016, I was officially in remission!
WHY AM I DOING THIS?
The reason why I am doing this is because I want to try and help to the place that helped in saving my life. Helping them can only mean helping more people in the future. Juravinski has an amazing medical team, great equipment and a wonderful facility that helped me through my cancer and many others. It can only get better with more help! I am not asking everyone to donate money, but you can help me by sharing this page or by even donating blood/platelets/stem cells. Believe me when I say what you do, can save a life!
During my battle, I tried to document everthing and I created a blog that has more detailed information. I will post some photos here too.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me during my battle with cancer and thank you to everyone who donates, shares my story and more. To anyone who is battleing now, may you stay strong and fight as hard as you can! You CAN do it!
Love you all- Krystal
My Personal Web Log
Hello all! I have not updated in awhile. Thank you to all the recent sponsors. I am not almost at $650. I added money in there from a Clothing sale I had too. I have been dealing with a lot of personal family things. We recently lost my Opa suddenly to unknown causes. My Opa was such an amazing man. I was extremely close with him so I have taken this very hard. When I was ill, he was always there for me and told me a couple things regarding being strong etc that I will keep with me forever. I truly believe that my family and fiance are a huge part of why I am still here today along with Juravinski. My opa has also been under the care of Hamilton Health Sciences during his struggle the past month at Hamilton General Hospital. They as well did everything to try and help him and our family through this tough time.
So Thank you to everyone and I promise to be active again soon.

May 29th Update: I just want to say thank you to all of the sponsors so far! I am blown away already and it is only the second day. Words cannot describe how happy it makes me. I have sent everyone personal e-mails and will always be doing that. My fiance will be helping me with a lot of stuff in this process, so if anyone needs to contact him as well because you know him better, you can do that! I have also been contacted by my wonderful friend Jenilee, that she will be helping with this as well, so special shout out to her and all of her kind words! You will be seeing her name a lot too! I do not really have a particular goal of a certain amount. Just whatever everyone donates, shares etc.Together we can all do this!! Love you all <3
