Steve Ewoniak - 2020 Survivor Spokesperson!
Thank you for supporting me in my quest to help raise funds for the Juravinski Cancer Centre. As a survivor, I am proud to support the efforts of the people of the JCC, who are like family to me. They do so much to help people through their cancer journey. Their work and efforts go far beyond medical treatments; it's so much more!
Being a man who has had and lives with Breast Cancer, I have had a different journey than most, but I can definitely relate to the realization of how this disease changes you and how you learn and adapt from it. Although only 0.2% or two in one-thousand breast cancer patients were men when I was first diagnosed in 2018, numbers are on the rise. It's now occurring at a rate of nearly 1% of cases and as always, it's effects can be critical.
The best way to manage the outcome is early detection and that's even more relevant for men. Often, breast cancer goes undetected and undiagnosed. If found later in its development, it can be very difficult to overcome. We have to be aware to self-screen. It saves lives! Finding it early on saved mine!
Thank you for supporting my efforts through the Bright Run. If you're interested in joining this run as an individual or as part of my team, please contact me to learn more. Your support is greatly appreciated!
