Early this year I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer - and our family suddenly found ourselves living a life we never could have expected or even imagined! Cancer has always been one of my greatest fears and suddenly this was my reality! Life with cancer and COVID has cetainly had its challenges - with homeschooling & chemo treatments, and isolation from most of our friends and family in order to stay healthy! But while it has been a terrifying and overwhelming road - I can truly say that cancer has changed me! I've learned alot about myself, my goals, my purpose, and my good good God!! I am BETTER because of breast cancer, I am STRONGER because of breast cancer, I am BRAVER because of breast cancer! Breast cancer is a club you don't want to be in, but now that I'm a life-time member - I'm soaking up all the benefits of this rotten, crazy, wild, ugly, wonderful, and somehow life-giving ride!
I am participating in the BRIGHT RUN to raise money for breast cancer research at Juravinski Hospital for several reasons. First, I walk out of thanks to the Juravinski doctors and nurses for the compassionate care I've received over the past few months. I am beyond grateful for your advice, thoughtful treatment plans, and your gentleness with a fragile, shocked, and scared soul. Second, I walk for my momma-in-love who has courageously conquered her own battle with breast cancer!!! You are my hero! I couldn't have survived these past months without you!! As well as my other 'breast friends' - Christie L, Nicole S, Andrea R, and Melissa P - who have each had their own battles with breast cancer and shared their love, prayers and best tips with me!! I run for you too!! And lastly, I run for my two precious girlies and the many other women I love - that breast cancer would increasingly be treatable and curable! My deepest hope and prayer is that continuing research would lead to a cure for all types and stages of breast cancer - that 'incurable' is a word women will never have to hear!!
