In Memory of Penny MacCormack
3rd Annual Triathlon for a Cure
Penny MacCormack was a warrior of a woman who touched many lives with her resilience, perseverance and commitment. In 2019, Penny was in the best shape of her life participating in boot camp and military fitness when she received the diagnosis of metastatic colon cancer. Penny spent the next 4 years at Juravinski (every two weeks and 87 rounds of chemo). Penny expressed her gratitude for the compassionate care she received at Juravinski under the care of Dr. Goffin and Dr. Tozer, often referring to the Juravinski as her second home.
In a gracious and generous effort to give back, Penny was excited to raise funds for the Juravinski Cancer Centre (JCC) and started a fundraiser called Triathlon for a Cure. Over the last two years Triathlon has raised approximately $30,000 for the chemo unit and life enhancing, innovative equipment (Cyberknife) used for radiation. Thanks to your contributions big and small, we’re able to provide excellent patient amenities and programs to help support so many families. Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre is one of Ontario’s most comprehensive cancer centres and the only site in south-central Ontario treating all cancers.
This year, Penny’s family will start the triathlon with the kayaking portion, followed by her fitness friends biking, and her other close friends walking, completing the triathlon with the combined groups to the finish line at the Lynn Valley Trail. Penny participated in the first two Annual Triathlons through Juravinski Cancer Centre, and this year on May 27th, Penny’s family and friends will be participating in her memory.
